PRAYER OF THE TEACHER
O Saint John Baptist de La Salle, you were inspired by God to make it your mission to educa te children and young people, especially if they were poor, by foun ding a teaching institute devoted exclusively to thi s purpose. I p raise you for giving me such a high esteem for t he work of ed ucation to which I have ebeen undeservingly ca lled. You were c onvinced that no other work was so importan t for society as sett ing the younger generations on the r oad to goodness an d learning. Obtain for me from the Lord a deep convic tion of the importance of the miss io n e ntr usted to me. In tercede with Him so that I may have the spec ial virtue s needed to pursue it wothily and fruitfull y, that I m ay ha v e humility especially; so that I do not look envio usly at positions which, huma nly speaking, are more esteem ed and better paid; and patienc e to make me endure the burde n of each day's tiredness; the defects of the pupils and the inc omptehensive; the defects of the pipils and the incomprehesion o f those I care fro so much. May I be supported to the very end, through your powerful intercession, by confidence in God's promise: "Those who have instructed many in virtue will shine like stars for all eternity" )Dn.12,3). Amen.
